Tie Breakers

1. It is the responsibility of the head Coach to read the O.R.A. Games & Tournaments section of the Operating Manual as well as the following rules. Ignorance is not an acceptable excuse. Make sure all bench staff read this carefully.

2. Each member of the bench staff must sign in before the game in the appropriate position. They must be qualified and be a current registered bench staff with O.R.A. Check the team roster carefully ensuring that all information is completed correctly. Home team decides what shirt colour they will be wearing, visitors must be of a contrasting colour. It is the responsibility of all teams to have a second set of shirts with them at this event. All bench staff must sign the game sheet before participating in the proper place or note the position held. (HC/AC/M/T). Signing a game sheet verifies that you have checked the sheet and agree with what has been entered on it as well as noting who is on the bench and in what position. This requirement must not be taken lightly. At no time is one person to print in the names of all of the staff – they must sign in themselves.

3. All teams must be prepared to start a game 10 minutes early as per the O.R.A Operating Manual – G&T section. A 3:00 minute warm-up buzzer shall be used for all games. This should be set as soon as the Zamboni leaves the ice. Teams need to be prepared to use this time wisely, and be ready to start the game as soon as the 3:00 minute warm-up is completed.

4. All games are 2-15 minute stop time periods. All round robin games will be played to the end of regulation time only. Total points at the end of the round robin series will declare the standings, to determine who continues on. O.R.A. tie-breaking procedures are found in the Games & Tournaments Section of the O.R.A. Operating Manual. The largest goal spread shown on the clock will be 5 goals. Remember that 7 goals is the maximum that can be used for tie-breaking purposes and will be the spread recorded on results boards. There will be overtime in cross over and finals ONLY. Overtime will be 15-minute periods sudden victory. Shot clocks will be used in all games for Petite & above.

5. The two teams in the final will receive medals. The Fair Play Award winning teams will receive their award at the final presentations. If no one from the team is present it will be taken to the next S.R.R.A. meeting to be distributed. The Championship trophies must be returned by Feb. 1st of the following year, with the appropriate new inscription attached.

6. Jeff Evans will assign referees for all games. The officials will do stick checks at the first game for each team and then again at any crossover and final games. It is up to the coaching staff to ensure players are properly equipped. Have the sticks outside the dressing room 15 minutes before game time. Coaches should check these before coming to the event and explain to parents what needs to be done to make corrections before they get there. If unsure ask a Referee-in-Chief of your organization to assist you.

7. The host will provide timekeepers & shot clock operators. The Home Team will supply a scorekeeper for each game unless told otherwise by the G&T Convenor in charge.

8. Maps are available in your package or on the Richmond Hill website. It is the team’s responsibility to make sure that all of the team arrives at the proper site ahead of the scheduled time.

9. Player substitutions are only allowed under very extreme circumstances. Permission will be decided by the G&T Committee for S.R.R.A. and therefore takes some time to consider. These requests must be in writing. Any requests for bench staff substitutions should be made through the coaching coordinator before the event, when possible. No TRF Adjustment forms will be used at this event.

10. Coaches of the Home team are responsible for holding back players from exiting the ice, when both teams must exit in close proximity.

11. Coaches are responsible to make sure that players do not pile onto the goalie at the end of the game. Serious injuries can occur.

12. THERE WILL BE A NO TOLERANCE RULE FOR ANY TYPE OF ABUSE, ON OR OFF THE ICE, BY BENCH STAFF, PLAYERS, or PARENTS. Make everyone aware of this.
